Daylight and Darkness

Daylight and Darkness
We all live in a world where there is day and where there is night.  As children we are afraid of the dark.  It may be due to the fact that we teach our children not to go out by themselves at night because someone might attack or kidnap them.  Imagination often gets carried away and causes children to believe that it may be a monster or some other dreamlike terror that would get them in the dark.  That is a good thing for a child.  It keeps them safe.  However, what happens when we are older?
As we grow and become adults does the fear of the dark go away?  Due to different personality types and the differences in the way which a person is raised the answer is “Yes and No”.  There are some adults that are still afraid of the dark but have a hard time admitting it.  There nightlight becomes a TV, they sleep with the bedroom door open, and the bathroom light is always on.  Does this make those adults safer than the rest?  No, not really.  The most that it will do is possibly deter a burglar.  Then there are the desensitized adults who no longer fear what is in the dark.  They sleep with  all the lights in the house turned off, the bedroom door is shut, and there is maybe a motion night light in the bathroom so that they are able to see to get to the bathroom.
This begs the real question.  Are you more comfortable in the day than at night?
Those of us who enjoy the daytime want to be noticed.  They want to be seen and heard.  They hide nothing or they put a spin on their life to make it seem better than what it really is.  They crave acceptance and will do anything to get it.  This type of personality is more likely to succumb to pressure from peers than any other personality type.  They require praise and adoration in order to feel better about themselves.  These people are typically followers as they agree with everyone in order to be liked.
A personality type that thrives at night doesn’t care if they are seen or heard.  Their life is what it is and they feel no need to talk to anyone about it, outside of a Doctor’s Office.  The night is an invisible blanket that ensures that a person won’t really be remembered the next day.  People that enjoy the dark like the fact that at night the phone will not ring, no one will stop by their house uninvited, and, if wanted, they are able to truly be alone. Being alone does not bother them.  This type of person is just as happy by themselves as they are with others.  Insecurities are not a big part of this type of person’s life.  The dark hides those insecurities bringing ease to that persons mind and allowing them to think.  Most artists are inspired during the night.  I am.  The inspiration I need to write always comes at night because I know that my thoughts will not be interrupted.   This inspiration leaks into the daytime life and often leads to this type of person being looked at as a leader because they do not feel the need to follow.  They will do what they want to do even if no one follows.
There is a third type of person and that is the person to fear.  They are comfortable in the daytime and the nighttime.  This personality type is what I like to call a chameleon.  They are one type of person during the day and another by night.  They will do anything to fit in and create their life out of a web of lies.   This person has the ability to tell lies better than the rest of us are able to tell the truth.  Their only concern is with their self and they will pick their surroundings carefully.  They favor playing the victim to manipulate the people around them into feeling sorry for them and wanting to help.  This personality type is called antisocial disorder.  They feel nothing but pretend to feel everything.  They will figure out what you need and mold themselves into it.  They are able to do this in a short period of time which is why neither the light nor the dark bothers them.  They are able to be whatever they want to be because they feel nothing.
Ask yourself, what are or aren’t you afraid of?
